چکیده

Objective: Collateral circulation is essential for cerebral perfusion and the maintenance of metabolism function. The clinical factors affecting collateral in brain still unknown. In presence slowly developing stenosis, decrease blood flow can be compensated by adequate circulation, signs hemodynamic deterioration may not observed. Cerebral Collateral Circulation in Carotid Artery Disease

Carotid artery disease is common and increases the risk of stroke. However, there is wide variability on the severity of clinical manifestations of carotid disease, ranging from asymptomatic to fatal stroke. The collateral circulation has been recognized as an important aspect of cerebral circulation affecting the risk of stroke as well as other features of stroke presentation, such as stroke p...

Collateral circulation and diabetes.

The article by Abaci et al 1 in this issue of Circulation draws our attention to a very important and novel observation that patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) have a lesser ability to develop collateral blood vessels in the presence of coronary artery disease. This is somewhat surprising, because DM is known to stimulate angiogenesis, at least in the retina of the eye, and is, because of cap...
